My One Hundred Words About Vox

Review: 3.5 STARS

Takes place in a dystopian world where women are limited to 100 words per day. The female protagonist, Jean McClellan, tries to find her voice which has been suppressed in more ways than one by the patriarchy. Loved the premise; very timely and intriguing. Execution was just ok. Pros: Intelligent blend of themes including politics, family, religion, science and relationships that roll up into the overarching concept of feminism. Cons: Fewer words could’ve been used to tell the story just as effectively. Written with a tone of a cautionary tale, and often labeled as a copycat of The Handmaid’s Tale.
